"The trouble with sharing one's bed with cats is that they'd rather sleep on you than beside you."

OUR PETS

"Vrai"

I initially got Vrai because I was looking for a hiking partner for the Appalachian Trail. Even though my plans changed, he has become my life companion. He's such a quirky (some might say gawky), loving, obedient dog who knows me probably better than anyone. Matching my personality in eccentricities, I can't imagine there is a better four-legged friend for me. In French, his name means "True."

"Mama Monita "

Mama was rescued along with more than 300 other dogs from a Sanford puppy mill in March 2005. She was bought to the veterinary hospital where I was working with a much younger pug and a dachsund. All three were malnourished, overbred, and had horrible tartar and plaque. Timid, frightened, and exhausted, it seemed so cruel to have to place them in yet another cage after having spent their entire lives in one. After a dental, some grooming, and a few healthy meals, Mama had practically attached herself to me. I'm a sucker for an asymmetrical grin and walrus feet.

"Bonsai Bean"

You would have never imagined such a loving, curious cat could have been abandoned at the tender age of 5 weeks. He's a mischievous treasure that spends his time wrapped around Vrai's tail or stoically parading around the patio. He's fearless but affectionate and welcomes luggage bags, boxes, and trash cans. You'll find him everywhere he's not supposed to be.

"Kahn"

Named for her ferocious playful appetite, Kahn was a rescue from euthanasia. Before she was 6 days old, she had already lost one eye due to infection and her 3 sisters had lost both. It took several weeks of steroids and antibiotics but she survived and lives happily with just one eye. She is obsessed with her toys and even plays fetch.
